A man has died in a fire at a bungalow in Greater Manchester.

The body of a man was discovered inside the detached property on Marches Close, in Royton, Oldham, at about 06:00 GMT.

Three crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were sent to the scene, off Oldham Road. Firefighters remain at the scene to make the area safe.

Greater Manchester Police said an investigation into the incident remained ongoing.

Neighbour Luke Hargreaves was woken up by sirens and said he saw flames coming through the roof of the property at about 07:00 GMT.

“It’s a very sad day,” he said.

He said his neighbour lived alone following the death of his wife.

His home was his “pride and joy” and he believed the man had been renovating the first floor of the property, Mr Hargreaves added.
