Two well-prepared teenagers who helped rescue five people and their dog off the side of Helvellyn are being praised for their actions.
Caelan, 16, and Rowan, 15, came across a group of adults wearing jeans and trainers on the mountain in winter conditions.
The teenagers led the group down the side of Striding Edge in a zig-zag pattern to Red Tarn below, cutting steps for them in the snow as they descended.
Patterdale Mountain Recue Team said the situation “could have been a lot worse” and praised the pair for their quick thinking and calmness under pressure.
Caelan, from Blackburn, Lancashire, and Rowan, from Settle in North Yorkshire, say they are returning to the Lake District for another hike this weekend.
