The Duchess of Edinburgh was visibly moved to tears on Thursday during the REME Memorial Day, held at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
Sophie, 61, who serves as Colonel-in-Chief of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, was photographed wiping away a tear during the emotionally charged proceedings.
The ceremony marked REME’s 84th birthday and featured the unveiling of a newly crafted memorial centrepiece, produced by the Corps’ own metalsmiths.
Wearing navy blue throughout, the Duchess appeared deeply affected by the occasion.
