Drivers are facing traffic delays across the country this morning, with National Highways issuing serious warnings for several collisions.

A number of accidents have taken place during rush hour this morning, which has impacted travel habits for thousands of motorists.


GB News has rounded up the most important traffic issues for drivers to be aware of this morning across the UK.

M54

The motorway in Shropshire is closed eastbound between J3 (Albrighton) and J2 (Wolverhampton) due to a serious collision.

National Highways announced that a car had left the carriageway on the M54, with West Mercia Police attending the scene.

They are being supported by traffic officers from National Highways, with experts warning that the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.

Road users on the eastbound carriageway are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs

  • Exit M54 at Junction 3
  • Head north on the A41
  • Head east on the A5
  • Head south on the A449 to return to the M54 at Junction 2

Drivers are facing long delays of around an hour on the M54

NATIONAL HIGHWAYS

A52

Motorists are also facing issues in Nottinghamshire, which has been closed in both directions between the A6011 (Gamston) and the A46 (Saxondale) following a serious collision.

Traffic officers are assisting with the management of congestion, while emergency services, including Nottinghamshire Police, are in attendance.

The transport organisation has also issued a diversion route for motorists to follow to avoid the road issues on the A52.

Traffic maps from National Highways suggest that the A52 event is not expected to clear until at least 2.45pm this afternoon, although this could be extended further.

National Highways has warned that delays on the M54 will continue over the coming hours

NATIONAL HIGHWAYS

Eastbound traffic is being diverted via the following route

  • Exit the A52 Gamston Island and take the exit onto the A6011 towards Nottingham
  • Follow the A6011 for approximately 2.8km, and at the signalised junction just past Lady Bay Bridge, turn right onto Meadow Lane
  • As the next roundabout, take the second exit onto the A612 and follow for approximately 11.5km until the roundabout in the village of Lowdham
  • Take the last exit onto the A6097 and continue until the roundabout with the A46
  • Take the A46 southbound to rejoin the eastbound A52 at Saxondale Island

Westbound traffic is being diverted via the following route

  • Exit the A46 westbound at the A46 Saxondale roundabout
  • Turn right and join the A46 northbound
  • At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit and join the A6097. Continue until the village of Lowdham
  • At the roundabout, with the A612, turn left and follow the road towards Nottingham
  • At the A612/A6011 roundabout take the 1st exit and join the A6011
  • Turn left onto Lady Bay Bridge and continue onward to then re-join the A52 westbound

A45

A serious collision has prompted the closure of the popular route in Northamptonshire eastbound between A509 (Little Irchester) and A5001 (Rushden).

National Highways has warned that the closure is expected to be “protracted and in place for a considerable time”.

GB News has contacted the emergency service, including Northamptonshire Police, for a comment.

Road users are advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs

  • Exit the A45 eastbound at the A45/A509 Wilby Way Roundabout
  • Take the 1st exit onto the A509 northbound
  • Follow the A509 Wellingborough bypass through 3 roundabouts:
    • A509/A4500 Wilby Way/Northampton Road (Sainsbury’s)
    • A509/Rutherford Drive (Bannatyne’s Gym)
    • A509/Sywell Road (3rd exit)
  • Continue to the A509/A5193/A510 Redhill Grange Roundabout
  • Take the 1st exit and stay on the A509 northbound
  • Continue through:
  • Pass through mini roundabouts at:
    • Station Road/Kettering Road
    • Orlingbury junction
  • Continue on the A509 to the A14 Junction 9 interchange
  • Take the 4th exit onto the A14 eastbound
  • Follow the A14 to Junction 10
  • Take the 3rd exit onto the A6 southbound (Burton Road)
  • Continue on the A6 via:
    • Burton Latimer Bypass
    • Finedon
    • Irthlingborough
  • Pass through:
    • A6/A510 Wellingborough Road mini roundabout
    • A6/B5348 Station Road roundabout
  • Continue to Chowns Mill Roundabout
  • Rejoin the A45 eastbound
