Drivers are facing traffic chaos on the M25 this afternoon following a serious accident, which prompted an urgent response from the air ambulance.

The M25 in Essex is closed anti-clockwise near Waltham Abbey between J28 (M11) and J25 (Waltham Cross) following a collision.

National Highways confirmed that the emergency services are in attendance, with Essex and Herts Air Ambulance also present.

Taking to social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways: East warned that delays are building.

There are currently 90 minutes of delays for motorists, as well as seven miles of congestion on the approach.

GB News has contacted Essex and Herts Air Ambulance for a comment.

National Highways also confirmed that its traffic officers are in attendance on the M25 and continue to manage the congestion.

It added: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

Cameras from the motorway show a number of police cars and fire engines present at the scene.

The transport organisation has outlined a diversion route for motorists to follow to avoid the congestion between London and Essex.

However, due to long-term roadworks at Gallows Corner, the usual agreed diversion for the closure cannot be used.
