A child sex offender who abused a teenage girl has been jailed, claiming the jury returned a guilty verdict because they had been hypnotised.

Natalie Wolf, formerly known as Ryan Haley, 47, was told in court by the victim that she would always see the defendant as a man.

The victim was 13 when she was groped and feared she was about to be raped by the biological male in the Washington area, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

Wolf denied sexual activity with a child, but was found guilty by a jury and was sentenced to three-and-a-half years behind bars.

The 47-year-old must also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life and was given a sexual harm prevention order.

After the conviction, Wolf claimed the verdict was part of a conspiracy, alleging the police, lawyers, and jury had been hypnotised.

Reading an impact statement in court, the victim said: “I am doing this not just for me, but for all the children and women who have been sexually abused by men.

“Ryan Haley wants everyone to know him as Natalie Wolf, but in my eyes he is Ryan Haley, the man who sexually abused me.”

She told Wolf: “Today I get the chance to read my victim statement in court, today I am finally going to get the justice I have waited for.

“Today Ryan Haley you are going to get what you deserve.”

Wolf, self-representing, accused the victim of “lying through her teeth”, before complaining of being assaulted in Durham Prison while in custody.

Judge Gavin Doig told the sex offender: “It is clear you believed you are the victim of a conspiracy involving the courts, prison service, the barristers in the case, your solicitor, the police, your family and a number of other people.

“You make allegations in your notes I have read, most of which I will not repeat, but include someone hypnotising the jury or that the jury were planted by people so you would be convicted.

“You suggest the victim may have hypnotised the police officer during her video interview.

“I want you to understand, you are not the victim of a conspiracy, you are not the victim at all.”

The judge said Wolf had shown “no remorse whatsoever” throughout the proceedings.

He added: “I urge you to spend your time in custody to reflect on your behaviour, the behaviour that has led you to be in prison now.”

Judge Doig also paid tribute to the victim, acknowledging that it is “not easy” to come forward.

Wolf requested release pending an appeal at the end of the hearing, with the judge urging the defendant to seek legal advice.

Judge Doig told the sex offender: “You will not be released on bail pending that appeal.”
