British Gas is offering its customers an extra incentive to support England this Saturday, with prizes of five years’ free electricity up for grabs each time the national team scores.

The energy supplier will award £4,400 worth of electricity for every goal England nets during the weekend fixture.

Customers need not take any action to participate, as all British Gas account holders are automatically included in the prize draw.

Winners will be chosen randomly once the match concludes.

The promotion comes as England supporters prepare to rally behind the Three Lions, with the quarter finals now within sight.

The competition follows a triumphant weekend for three British Gas customers, who each scooped £4,400 in free electricity after England found the net three times against Mexico.

Terrence, a pensioner from Nottingham, was among the fortunate recipients.

He said: “This is fantastic news. As a pensioner, this will make a huge difference and help me enormously. I’d like to thank British Gas for the call and for this amazing prize.”

Sophie, a mother of two from Kent, expressed her disbelief at the win. She said: “Ecstatic!! I’ve never won anything in my life. I’m speechless.”

Jennifer from Buckinghamshire was the third winner.

She was initially taken aback by the unexpected call, saying: “Wow. Normally I would have hung up by now, but I’m listening!”

A British Gas spokesperson said: “There’s nothing quite like getting behind England together, and we wanted to give our customers another reason to celebrate every goal this weekend.

“We’re always looking for ways to give back to our customers, whether that’s through prizes, rewards or helping them save money at home.
