The BBC has been “rotten for decades” and could have sealed the “final nail in the coffin” by doctoring Donald Trump footage, it has been claimed.

Speaking to GB News, American commentator Lee Cohen said the decision by the “shamefully biased” broadcaster is a “reprehensible low”.

In their flagship Panorama programme, Mr Trump appears to say: “We’re gonna walk down to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you and we fight. We fight like hell and if you don’t fight like hell you’re not gonna have a country any more.”

However, the US President told the crowds that “everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”.

Expressing his fury at the decision, Mr Cohen told GB News: “This is a reprehensible low even for the shamefully biased BBC. It should be the final nail in the coffin of a broadcaster that’s been rotten for decades.

“It should be defunded immediately. The BBC hates anyone who puts Britain or America first. And you know what? The British people’s licence fees just paid for a hit job on the most pro-British US president of our lifetimes.”

As host Martin Daubney highlighted that Mr Trump has filed legal cases against broadcasters in the past, Mr Cohen said that the BBC “shouldn’t be immune” to such action.

He explained: “I shouldn’t think they would be immune, nor should they be protected from this.

“They doctored President Trump’s own words, cut, spliced and twisted, and then broadcast fake versions to eight million British homes. That is a betrayal of the profession of journalism.”

He stated: “Why should Trump hold back? He should let loose, hammer and tongs on this shameful, biased broadcasting institute.”

Expecting the White House to react to the BBC’s exposé, Mr Cohen told GB News: “I imagine they will say something at some point soon, and I imagine they won’t hold their fire.

“I’m sitting right now just a mile from Mar-A-Lago in Florida, and it’s noon, so I expect we’re going to be hearing something soon, and I am waiting with anticipation.”

Detailing the leaked 19-page dossier into the BBC Panorama documentary, The Telegraph’s Associate Editor Gordon Rayner said the broadcaster made it appear to be a “seamless soundbite” from the US President encouraging the Capitol riot.

He said: “They’ve effectively created a quote that Trump didn’t say, they then show footage of the Proud Boys marching on the Capitol as if that happened in reaction to Trump speaking.”

A BBC spokesman said in a statement: “While we don’t comment on leaked documents, when the BBC receives feedback it takes it seriously and considers it carefully.

“Michael Prescott is a former adviser to a board committee where differing views and opinions of our coverage are routinely discussed and debates.”
