Police have launched an investigation 35 years after the death of a 58-year-old man, with a pensioner arrested on suspicion of murder. Bentley Mathias, who would now have been 92, died on 19 November 1991 in Morriston Hospital. At the time, his cause of death was recorded as a brain haemorrhage and was not treated as suspicious. However, Mathias’ death is now being investigated after new potential evidence has come to light. A woman and her 15-year-old daughter who died after getting into difficulty in the water on the Essex coast were trying to help a seven-year-old boy, police have said.The child remains in a critical condition in hospital after the incident at West Mersea near Colchester on Wednesday evening.
