A Bentley Flying Spur formerly belonging to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is currently being offered for £125,000 by a Doncaster-area dealership, a significant drop from the £220,000 it reportedly cost when purchased new six years ago.

The luxury six-litre vehicle, which carries just 7,000 miles on the clock, once sported personalised number plates reading “DOY”, a nod to Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s former title as Duke of York.

The registration is no longer visible on the DVLA website, and its fate remains unknown.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor originally had the car’s factory blue paintwork replaced with Barnato racing green, a distinctive shade that would become closely associated with his use of the vehicle at high-profile royal occasions.

The car was notably used by Mr Mountbatten-Windsor when he attended his father’s funeral in 2021, and again the following year for his granddaughter’s christening.

It is believed to have changed hands in 2025, passing to a specialist Bentley dealer, the same year Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his royal titles.

The vehicle subsequently made its way to Portland Autos in Bawtry, a prestige car supplier run by Clive Watson, who established the business in 1983 and now operates it with his two sons.

The dealership lists the Flying Spur as an “Ex British Royal Family car” with two previous keepers, though Mr Watson noted that the purchase was made through an intermediary rather than directly from the royal household.

Mr Watson told The Times that his team had no idea of the car’s royal connections when they first acquired it. “We found it had a very strange service history, so made some inquiries and realised it was a royal household car, and eventually we put two and two together and worked it all out,” he said.

He added that the vehicle’s distinguished provenance would likely prove a selling point. “We didn’t buy the car from the royal household directly; it came through a third party, but the fact that it was owned by a royal is likely to help sell it, as it is both something of interest about the car and it means it will have been incredibly well cared for,” Mr Watson explained.

“The Bentley is beautiful, in flawless condition and has just 7,000 miles on it.”

The Flying Spur’s interior features cream leather upholstery complemented by walnut trim, along with a panoramic sunroof, heated seats equipped with massage functions, and a Breitling clock.

Mr Watson remarked that his dealership has handled numerous vehicles with royal provenance over the years. “The royal households generally take very good care of the cars and are easy to deal with,” he said. “Much better than footballers, anyway.”

The Barnato racing green finish chosen by Mr Mountbatten-Windsor takes its name from Diana Barnato Walker, a pioneering British aviator who became the first woman to fly faster than the speed of sound. Her father, Woolf Barnato, served as Bentley’s chairman.

The late Queen Elizabeth also favoured the same shade, having owned a Bentley Mulsanne painted in the distinctive green.

The sale comes amid mounting legal difficulties for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor. This week he launched a judicial review challenging the lawfulness of police raids conducted at his properties on the Sandringham estate and at Royal Lodge in Windsor, both linked to the Jeffrey Epstein files. A High Court hearing in the case is scheduled for Thursday.

The King has instructed that no private royal funds will be directed towards the legal challenge.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was detained on his 66th birthday in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office, an offence carrying a potential life sentence. The arrest followed the publication of court documents that allegedly indicated he had passed sensitive information to Epstein during his decade-long role as special envoy for international trade and investment.

After 12 hours of questioning, he was released while the investigation continues. He has consistently and strongly denied any wrongdoing.

Earlier this week, a Thames Valley Police spokesman told GB News: “Whilst our investigation into misconduct in public office continues, we are engaged in legal proceedings in relation to warrants previously obtained from the Central Criminal Court.

“As these legal proceedings are currently ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”
