Aldi has announced a £370million investment to open 40 new stores across Britain in 2026, as the German‑owned supermarket pushes ahead with plans to reach communities currently without access to its shops.

The UK’s fourth‑largest grocer, which operates around 1,060 stores nationwide, said the expansion is aimed at filling “gaps” in its coverage.

The commitment forms a major part of a wider £1.6billion spending programme unveiled last autumn to open 80 new locations over two years.

New branches planned for this year include Southam in Warwickshire, Hastings in East Sussex and Amersham in Buckinghamshire.

The rollout follows a series of openings in 2025, with new stores launched in Eastbourne, Fulham Broadway and Deeside.

Aldi has set a long‑term target of reaching 1,500 UK stores — a goal that would require more than 400 additional sites beyond its current network.

The two‑year investment programme, first announced in September, is specifically allocated to delivering the 80 new shops planned across the period.

Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said the strategy reflects the company’s belief that “access to high‑quality affordable food is a right, not a privilege”.

He added: “It’s our mission to make this a reality for customers up and down the UK.”

The supermarket recently reported December sales of £1.65billion, driven by strong demand for British‑sourced meat, vegetables and festive favourites such as sparkling wine.

Revenue rose three per cent in the four weeks to Christmas Eve, though this marked a slight slowdown compared with the previous year’s festive trading.

Heres the list of new locations:

  • Southam, Warwickshire,
  • Hastings, East Sussex
  • Amersham, Buckinghamshire

The most recent openings includes:

  • Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire
  • Eastbourne, East Sussex
  • Fulham Broadway, London
  • Deeside in Wales
