Travis Kelce has reacted to Prince William’s admission on a recent chat show that he tried to shun the NFL star from an infamous group selfie with his now-wife, Taylor Swift.
The Prince of Wales appeared on The Graham Norton show last week, where he jokingly recalled taking a “selfie” with his two eldest children alongside Ms Swift and Mr Kelce, a photo that incidentally “hard launched” the American stars’ relationship.
The selfie was taken after one of the pop star’s “Eras Tour” shows at Wembley Stadium in London, which was attended by Prince William on his 42nd birthday, alongside Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
When asked about the moment, which took place in 2024, the Prince of Wales admitted he tried to edge Mr Kelce out of the shot.
The selfie was the first social media post that depicted the now-married couple together.
Realising the significance of the photo, following the couple’s subsequent engagement and marriage in July, William told Mr Norton: “I hadn’t appreciated the significance, and actually, I was trying to move him out of the photo…
“But Travis kept coming back in, and I couldn’t work out why he kept coming back in.”
“I was trying to move him out so it was just me and Taylor and the children” he added.
Travis Kelce and his brother Jason replied to the comments on an episode of New Heights this week, a podcast the pair host together.
“I get it, man. I think we all get it,” Travis said of the incident.
“I was just a boyfriend at that point. You know? I wasn’t her husband yet,” alluding to the early stage of his and Ms Swift’s relationship.
Jason agreed, stating that William’s stance had been “very understandable”.
LATEST ROYAL DEVELOPMENTS
He went on to joke about the podcast production team editing the photo to remove his brother and offering to send the revised version to Buckingham Palace, saying: “I’ve got to ship that to him.
“Just send it to Buckingham Palace. You think it’ll get to him?”
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end insisted he has no hard feelings towards the future King, adding: “Shout out to Prince William, man.”
The men appear to be on good terms after Prince William joined the Kelce brothers on their podcast last July in a pre-taped episode that aired just hours before Travis and Ms Swift’s wedding in Madison Square Gardens.
