Part of the M6 in Cheshire has been closed in both directions following a crash.
Traffic England said emergency services had been called to a collision at the Lymm Interchange near Warrington, where the M6 meets junction 9 of the M56.
Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads at junction 20 and there are half-hour delays, with four miles of congestion on the approach.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix said southbound M6 traffic had already built up to the Croft Interchange at junction 21. Those heading northbound can expect congestion to before junction 19 for Knutsford.
Inrix said there were also delays on the M62 heading towards Manchester due to motorists trying to avoid the M6/M56 congestion.
