The collection also features a green beret worn by Marine W.G.C. ‘Molly’ MacPherson during the Falklands War, alongside a medal presentation box commemorating Marine David Davidson’s landing in Egypt during the Suez Crisis in 1956.

For Royal Marines veteran Peter Walker, the exhibition has a deeply personal meaning.

Within the Remembrance Room, photographs of his grandfather and a friend he joined the Marines with in 1953 feature among the displays.

“It means a lot,” he told GB News. “The whole museum means a lot.”

The Remembrance Room is free to enter, giving veterans, families and visitors a quieter space to reflect on those who lost their lives serving their country.

The £15 million project has received £4.4 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, alongside support from the Garfield Weston Foundation, Royal Navy Museums reserves and private donations.

The funding has helped transform Boathouse 6, a Grade II-listed building dating back to the 1840s, into a new centre celebrating Royal Marines history.

After nine and a half years in the making, the experience aims to keep the stories of those who served alive for generations to come.
