Sir Keir Starmer will be summoned to give evidence to the national grooming gangs inquiry, GB News understands.
The former Prime Minister, who announced the inquiry last year, has been listed as a core participant.
The inquiry will commence its National Accountability Hearings in London in December and January.
Further hearings will take place in March and April next year.
The inquiry’s hearings are expected to examine why previous probes and investigations have not resulted in “meaningful change”.
It will assess why lessons were not learned and will require institutions and organisations to explain the steps they took to protect children.
The hearings will start with the experiences of victims and survivors.
They will then continue onto previous findings from national and local inquiries.
The inquiry, led by Baroness Anne Longfield, will examine institutional responses.
It is expected that Sir Keir will give evidence in this phase.
Other core participants include Greater Manchester Police whistleblower Maggie Oliver and Rotherham whistleblower Jayne Senior.
The inquiry has also summoned the ministries of justice, education, transport, among other Whitehall departments.
The Welsh Government, the Local Government Association and Manchester City Council will also be called on to give evidence.
