Drivers are still paying around £110 for a full tank of diesel, even though the price of a litre has fallen below the dreaded £2 mark.
New figures from the AA show that diesel has fallen to 199.98p per litre, with wholesale costs falling by at least 6p in recent days.
Despite this, diesel drivers are still forking out around £110 to fill a typical 55-litre tank when visiting the average filling station.
Petrol has also dropped slightly to 174.79p per litre, although motorists will pay £96.13 to fill a full tank.
Wholesale costs have fallen by between 6p and 8p for forecourts, suggesting that prices could fall for drivers if savings are passed on.
AA analysis of Fuel Finder data over the last 24 hours shows that 234 stations have reduced their diesel price, while just 46 have hiked costs.
Similarly, 187 forecourts slashed the price of unleaded petrol, although 87 raised costs for struggling motorists.
Edmund King, AA president, said: “Whilst there is a glimmer of hope with the diesel pump price dropping for the first time since July, the global uncertainty means drivers can’t count on any big reductions anytime soon.
