Targeting bin crews and traffic wardens out doing their jobs is “unacceptable”, a council has said, after a wagon had a brick thrown through its window while out on its rounds.
At least one traffic warden was also said to have been targeted in the Goldwick area, Oldham Council said.
Speaking after the bin wagon incident last month, a spokesperson said the wagon had its driver-side window smashed “by a resident” and a parking enforcement officer was subjected to abuse.
“Our staff are working hard every day to deliver essential services for communities across the borough. These unacceptable actions not only put people at risk but also delay services for other residents,” they added.
The council has recently laid fresh double yellow lines and given out 273 parking fines so far this year in parts of the Waterloo Street area.
“Enforcement officers are carrying out their duties to help keep our highways safe and accessible,” the council continued.
“Any form of verbal or physical abuse towards our staff is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
