Matt Goodwin has launched a furious tirade on Britain’s foreign aid spending after splurging millions in taxpayer money on “condoms” in Pakistan.
Speaking to GB News, the political commentator hit out at the Foreign Office’s £111million ‘Accelerating Family Planning in Pakistan’ programme, declaring we “must fix Britain first”.
The programme, created in 2017, has spent £74million to promote branded condoms through shops and pharmacies in Pakistan.
An additional £13.44million has been funded to help “identify cultural barriers to modern contraceptives”. The scheme is set to run until 2028.
Discussing the funding on GB News, Mr Goodwin expressed his outrage at tens of millions of British taxpayer money funding contraceptive incentives overseas.
He said: “The point the point here is a serious one. Britain, in case the Labour Government hasn’t noticed, Britain is broke. We are massively in debt, we’ve got record taxes, record energy bills.
“Yet we’ve got a political class, particularly in the Labour Party, Andy Burnham and Ed Miliband, that want to increase foreign aid again to around £13billion a year.
“Now, my view is that that money is better spent on schools, hospitals and prisons here in Britain.”
Mr Goodwin highlighted other taxpayer-funded programmes around the world despite Britons being “treated in hospital corridors”.

He said: “And it’s not just condoms in Pakistan – that’s bad enough – we’ve also been spending millions of pounds on roads through the Amazon, we’ve been spending millions of pounds on obesity programmes in China, helping eco farms in Nepal, cycling lanes in Mexico.
“Yet we’ve got British people in NHS hospitals in this country being treated in corridors and car parks. My view on simply is this fix Britain first before helping the rest of the world.”
Mr Goodwin argued that over the last two decades, Westminster has developed a “suicidal empathy” towards the rest of the world.
He told GB News: “It’s completely bananas, and what lies behind this is a sick new mindset that’s taken over Westminster over the last 20 years. And I’ve talked a lot about this on GB News, this idea of suicidal empathy.

PA“We have politicians that are now so obsessed with wanting to help everybody else in the world that they are happy to destroy our country along the way.
“We haven’t got enough prisons for criminals, we’ve got hospitals that are collapsing, we haven’t got enough schools.
“The infrastructure in this country is falling apart under the weight of enormous population pressures.”
Mr Goodwin made clear: “I want to see a Government in this country that says, okay, we’re not going to spend £1 overseas until we’ve got functioning public services for the British people here in this country.
“Now, Reform UK are saying they want to slash foreign aid by 90 per cent.
“Much of Westminster is obviously opposed to that because Westminster wants the broken status quo to continue, but I think that’s where the British public are.
“I think the British public are saying, look, we’re generous, we’ve done enough. In recent years, we’ve helped the world, we’ve helped Ukrainian refugees, we’ve helped Hong Kong, we’ve done our bit, but can we now actually just have a bit of investment in us, in our communities, in fixing our borders and in fixing our country? And I think that’s a reasonable thing.”

Mr Goodwin warned that Britain’s social contract is “now in a delicate place”, and the Government must “invest in our own defences”.
He concluded: “We should be, I think, investing in our own national defence first, we should be investing in the British people first.
“Because if we don’t, to be frank, we’re going to have much bigger problems than perhaps we currently realise.
“Our social contract in this country is now at a very delicate, febrile place, but there are lots of people in Britain who are utterly exasperated with the failure of Westminster to invest properly in fixing our borders and in the country.
“And I’m urging people in Westminster just to get out there in the country and talk to normal British people and start investing in them, and start actually using this money to build a proper, functioning country rather than spending it on condoms in Pakistan.”
