Paul Gadd, the former glam rock performer known as Gary Glitter, entered not guilty pleas at Southwark Crown Court today to eight counts of sexual abuse involving a girl who was between eight and 11 years old at the time.

The 82-year-old, once among Britain’s biggest pop acts of the 1970s, now faces double the number of charges compared to when he first appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court in August.

At that earlier hearing, Gadd had been presented with four allegations – one of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three of indecent assault on a girl under 14.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 1978 and 1981 at a residential property in Kensington, London, and involve a single complainant.

During the magistrates’ court proceedings in August, prosecutor Jonathan Polnay KC informed the court that the complainant had lived in proximity to Glitter’s home, which is how she came into contact with him.

She alleges he offered her chocolate and brought her into his residence, where the abuse is said to have taken place.

Polnay also told the court that Gadd claimed he did not know the complainant and maintained the allegations were untrue.

The Metropolitan Police first received the allegations on January 9, 2025, prompting an investigation into the circumstances.

Gadd was subsequently interviewed by officers on July 22 in connection with the inquiry.

He was charged shortly afterwards and made his initial court appearance on August 5 via video link from HMP Channings Wood in Devon, where he remains in custody.

During that 11-minute hearing, he appeared wearing a blue shirt and sunglasses, confirming only his name and date of birth.

Gadd was remanded and directed to attend today’s hearing, with the case now proceeding at Southwark Crown Court rather than the Old Bailey as originally indicated.
