New software launched by Volvo will alert drivers to hazards on the road and communicate with other vehicles about potential road safety issues.
The new intelligent safety features announced by the popular Swedish manufacturer aim to develop its “pioneering” technology.
First introduced in 2016, the connected safety technology allows for real-time hazard alerts based on data shared from other vehicles on the road.
A fresh update has been confirmed by Volvo that will feature four new alerts and will be available for owners of the Volvo EX90, ES90 and EX60.
It will include the Vulnerable Road User Alert, which informs other drivers if pedestrians and cyclists are detected ahead or near the road.
Similarly, the Large Animal Alert can warn of wildlife on or near the road, while the Roadwork Alert can also warn other motorists of hazards.
The Accident Ahead Alert can warn other drivers of hazards, using real-time data from connected Volvo cars or traffic management centres.
Features included in the software update will apply to three Volvo models and will launch first in Europe, the United States and Canada.

There may be some time differences based on when the software update will become availability based on the model of car.
More than one million Volvo models have the connected safety technology activated, with the Swedish brand saying it was contributing to a “collective safety effort”.
Alerts can be sent to other vehicles from other brands and national traffic management centres through the European Data for Road Safety ecosystem.

The software update will also include an enhanced audio experience by bringing Spatial Audio support in CarPlay to the EX90 and ES90.
Drivers will be able to experience multi-dimensional and immersive sound through the Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, including 25 high-performance speakers.
Volvo is the only legacy automaker to be designated as having Level 5 capability in software-defined cars by S&P Global Mobility.
