A man has been charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in Manchester.

Abdul Shinwari, 24, of no fixed abode, was charged after reports that a 17-year-old girl was raped on Hope Street, near Piccadilly Gardens, at around 01:30 BST on 14 July.

Shinwari was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, non-fatal strangulation and possession with intent to supply, and will appear at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday, Greater Manchester Police said.

Specialist safeguarding officers are continuing to support the victim, the force added.
