Meghan Markle has surfaced on social media for the first time since the announcement of her unexpected relocation to Britain, featuring in a promotional video for her lifestyle brand As Ever.

The clip, posted to the brand’s Instagram page, shows the Duchess of Sussex gathering apples from an orchard and placing them into a basket.

The appearance comes amid swirling reports about both her professional plans and the permanence of the Sussexes’ return to British soil.

Despite reports over the weekend that discussions had fallen apart following what royal author Tina Brown described as fierce public backlash, entertainment sources are now understood to have indicated that “nothing has changed” regarding Meghan’s potential involvement in the Guy Ritchie Netflix series The Gentlemen.

The news outlet news.com.au, which originally revealed that the Duchess could be returning to acting, reports that conversations are still ongoing, though nothing has been finalised.

Initial reports had suggested a part was being crafted specifically for Meghan in the crime comedy, with negotiations at a preliminary stage.

Within hours, however, claims emerged that the deal had collapsed under the weight of negative public reaction.

GB News has sought comment from Meghan’s spokesman regarding the status of the discussions.

Meghan is believed to have been introduced to Mr Ritchie, whose former marriage to Madonna is well documented, through shared connections.

Any appearance would reportedly come in a third series of the show, which has yet to receive a green light.

The Cotswolds-set crime caper follows a British Duke who unexpectedly comes into possession of his father’s country estate, only to find it conceals a cannabis operation controlled by notorious criminals.

Its cast includes Theo James, Ray Winstone and Vinnie Jones. The second series of the comedy is due to land on Netflix next month.

How many episodes Meghan might feature in remains unclear, given that the role was said to still be in development when talks first came to light.

A source close to the couple has suggested their stay in Britain may prove temporary, potentially lasting as little as six months. “It could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more.

“I don’t think even they know yet,” the source said, adding that Canada or Australia could also be on the cards.

“It’s one of the great things about having left the institution.”

The Sussexes are expected to bring their dogs Mia and Pula when they move in the coming weeks, though their chickens will remain at the Montecito home under the care of household staff.

Meanwhile, the Royal Family has been gathering at Balmoral for their traditional summer break, with the King, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Princess Royal and the Duke of Edinburgh all spotted attending a church service at nearby Crathie Kirk.
