The relationship between Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and fellow St Andrews graduate Felix da Silva-Clamp has now moved firmly into the open.

This week, the couple attended a performance of Inala, a Zulu ballet, at the Edinburgh International Festival alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Mr Silva-Clamp, dressed smartly in a suit jacket and shirt, was photographed chatting confidently with cast members.

An unnamed royal commentator told the Telegraph: “You can hardly imagine Louise or her boyfriend falling out of nightclubs like her older cousins.”

At Lady Louise’s age, Prince Harry was regularly generating headlines as the “Party Prince.”

Their romance is believed to have begun in 2024, when both were cast in Dragon Fever, a student production described as a blend of Agatha Christie and The Hobbit, at the prestigious Byre Theatre in St Andrews.

Lady Louise took on the role of Rigeon, a Don Quixote-style figure, while Mr Silva-Clamp played a cheerful squire named Grant.

The pair were first publicly seen together at the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials in Norfolk in 2024, where Mr Silva-Clamp accompanied her on a quiet walk around the course after her dressage performance. Their behaviour was so understated that GB News initially described him as her “pal.”

Throughout university, Lady Louise maintained a remarkably unassuming existence. “She works a student job during the week, in the canteen, and she takes part in a lot of student theatre productions,” a fellow student told The Telegraph.

Born in Kensington, Mr Silva-Clamp is the son of Jonathan da Silva-Clamp, an established solicitor who stood as the Conservative candidate for Shaftesbury and Queenstown in Wandsworth during the 2022 local elections.

His mother, Kendall Searle, is an Australian physician employed by the World Health Organisation.

He spent his secondary school years in Australia, attending Melbourne Grammar School – a £20,000-a-year institution whose alumni include three Australian prime ministers. At St Andrews, he enlisted in the same reserve army unit as Lady Louise.

His dedication to supporting her passion for carriage driving has been noted. Her trainer Sara Howe told Hello that Mr Silva-Clamp was “just lovely,” adding: “He’s always been very supportive, but also leaves her alone to get on with the job.”

Following her graduation, Lady Louise is currently on a gap year but has signalled an interest in pursuing a full-time military career. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes this would allow her to “get the privacy she clearly wants” while also “continuing the royal military tradition, while her brother is more interested in agriculture.”

Though the official position remains that Lady Louise will not take on royal duties, Mr Fitzwilliams suggests “nothing would give more pleasure to William” than seeing her play a larger role in public life.

A military career would be a shrewd foundation for a future senior royal, and securing a dependable partner who conducts themselves well in public “would certainly be an important part of making that happen,” Mr Fitzwilliams argues, pointing to Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence as a model.
