A National Lottery winner has revealed what he will spend the jackpot on after “financially securing” his future.

A retired father in his 60s from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire has revealed his future plans after a life-changing EuroMillions windfall, scooping more than £182,000 in the draw.

The sports-mad dad matched five main numbers and one Lucky Star in the EuroMillions draw on April 10 to pocket £182,160.10.

Choosing to remain anonymous, he said he was left in complete disbelief when he discovered the size of his win.

He said: “I was initially in disbelief when I found out I’d won.

“I honestly couldn’t get my head around it.”

Despite the shock, the retired father-of-one quickly turned his mind to how he would put the money to good use.

He said he plans to carry out renovations on his home and said the win had given him an enormous sense of security about his financial future.

He said: “I’m planning to do some renovations to my home, and it’s so great knowing that my future is financially secure, and I can take things as I find them now.”

The winner revealed he had only decided to buy a ticket because the jackpot had climbed above £60million, making the prize too tempting to pass up.

Dean O’Field, winners’ adviser at Allwyn, operator of the National Lottery, said the company was delighted for the Hertfordshire dad and hoped he would enjoy making the home improvements of his dreams with his newfound fortune.

The win comes as the National Lottery continues to make life-changing differences to players across the country.

It also follows the news a mystery Set For Life winner from Croydon recently came forward to claim a prize worth £10,000 a month for a year after a public appeal was launched to track them down.

The winner had matched all five main numbers in the April 2 draw and had left the prize unclaimed for weeks before finally coming forward.

Allwyn confirmed it had received the claim and it would be going through the standard validation process before being paid out at an appointment with a winners’ adviser.

The Croydon winner will then decide whether to go public and share their story, with no details to be released unless they choose to do so.

A man from Poole in Dorset also recently revealed he had scooped a £10,000-a-month Set For Life prize, saying the win had taken enormous pressure off his family and allowed them to hit goals they had been working towards.

He said: “It’s a great feeling, and it takes so much pressure off me and my family — we are able to hit all of our goals now.”

The National Lottery continues to create life-changing winners across the country each week, with players also helping to generate around £33million every week for good causes.

Since its launch in 1994, the National Lottery has raised more than £53billion for good causes, funding hundreds of projects in every postcode area across the UK.

These include support for the arts and sport sectors, empowering local community groups and preserving iconic British landmarks.

Since its launch, the National Lottery has awarded players more than £102billion in prize money, creating more than 8,000 millionaires in the process.

The National Lottery urges all players to engage responsibly and to check their tickets carefully, with significant prizes going unclaimed each year.
