Marks & Spencer has announced that every one of its 229 full line stores across the UK will shut their doors for 24 hours next week.

The high street retailer confirmed the closures will affect its larger locations throughout England over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Most stores will close this Easter Sunday, allowing employees to enjoy a well-deserved break during the holiday.

Shoppers needing last-minute Easter essentials will still have options available, as M&S convenience stores nationwide and all Scottish branches will continue trading on the day.

Customers planning their Easter shopping are being advised to pick up any final items before Sunday’s closure takes effect.

The retailer has confirmed that stores will welcome customers on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday, though operating hours will differ between locations.

Saturday trading will see most branches running their standard schedules.

“Opening times will vary from store to store, so customers should visit the store locator page on our website to check the hours for their local store,” M&S said.

Scottish stores benefit from different trading regulations, enabling them to remain open throughout the Easter period alongside the smaller convenience format shops dotted across the country.

M&S joins numerous other retailers in adjusting their schedules for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Shops exceeding 280 square metres in England and Wales face a legal obligation to close on both Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

Those smaller stores choosing to open on Sundays must adhere to trading restrictions limiting them to six consecutive hours of business between 10am and 6pm.

Many retailers opt to close voluntarily on these occasions, giving their workforce the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones.

With most M&S branches operating normally on Good Friday and Saturday, customers will have ample opportunity to stock up on essentials and Easter treats beforehand.

Specific opening times for individual stores can be found on M&S.com or through the M&S app.

Major supermarkets will have different opening hours over the Easter period, with times varying depending on store size and location.

Sainsbury’s: Most stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, although branches in Scotland will remain open and some Sainsbury’s Local shops may still operate.

Shoppers are advised to check their local store. On Easter Monday, April 6, larger stores are expected to open from 8am to 8pm, while Sainsbury’s Local stores will generally run as normal.

Tesco: All Tesco stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, except for large stores in Scotland, which will follow their usual hours.

On Easter Monday, most stores will operate reduced hours, typically from 8am to 6pm.
