A man has been charged after the body of an elderly woman was found in a freezer.

The body was discovered after police searched his home in Porthcawl, South Wales after reports of welfare concerns.

Christopher Phillips, 60, from Porthcawl, was charged with preventing a lawful burial.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the force attended an address on Poplar Crescent, Porthcawl at 1.45pm on Tuesday after a call concerning the welfare of a woman.

Police said a woman in her 80s, also from Porthcawl, was found dead inside.

The force added: “Christopher Phillips, 60, from Porthcawl has been charged with preventing a lawful burial. Investigations into the death are ongoing.”
