The deputy chief constable of a police force where an officer and two staff have been sacked for contacting sex workers with no proper policing purpose said their work phones had been analysed as part of the investigation.

Greater Manchester Police’s anti-corruption drive saw a further eight officers suspended, including a superintendent, while two other staff members are under investigation.

Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods told Radio Manchester the behaviour was “not compatible with being a police officer”.

But he said there was often a lot of “legitimate” police contact with sex workers, because “they are often victims, often vulnerable and often need our support”.
