Police investigating the disappearance of 82-year-old Brian Wright have recovered a body.

Nottinghamshire Police was called to a farm off the A1133 in Langford at 10:15 GMT on Saturday, following the discovery of the body of a 52-year-old man, which police have now said is believed to be Mr Wright’s son Charles.

Officers said the death was not being treated as suspicious, but it was believed to be linked to the disappearance of Brian.

The force has now confirmed a body was discovered in a field near Danethorpe on Tuesday, and the case is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide.

In a statement, police confirmed officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths, or a separate hit-and-run in Gainsborough Road, Winthorpe, just after 10:00 GMT on Saturday.

Det Ch Insp Ruby Burrow said: “This is clearly a deeply tragic case, and we are continuing to support family members at this extremely difficult time.

“We again ask the media and public to respect their privacy as they come to terms with recent events.

“I would like to thank everyone who shared our appeals to locate Brian since he went missing, as well as our search teams for their professionalism and dedication over the last few days.

“A post-mortem examination and formal identification will be carried out in due course and a file prepared for the coroner.”
