Thousands of UK households are at risk due to faulty environmental alarms that could fail during critical emergencies.

Swedish manufacturer Deltronic Security AB has issued an urgent recall for its i10 series detectors, which include models for smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detection.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has warned that these devices pose a “serious risk of harm” to users.

The recall encompasses three specific models: the Smoke i10 Art 8276, Heat i10 Art 8277, and CO i10 Art 8278.

Only units produced between April and July 2022 are affected by the safety defect.

These smart detectors, designed for remote monitoring, may fail to communicate with emergency response centres precisely when needed most. The critical flaw emerges when detector batteries start to fail.

This communication breakdown violates the Radio Equipment Regulations 2017.

GETTY

While local alarms continue sounding during emergencies, the devices may stop transmitting vital test signals and battery warnings to monitoring centres.

This malfunction affects units with firmware version 03.00, spanning production lots 150 through 158.

Without proper alerts reaching emergency services, vulnerable residents could face life-threatening delays in assistance.

CAREIUM

Careium, the telecare provider distributing these devices, serves Britain’s most “vulnerable” citizens.

As one of the UK’s largest telecare organisations, it works with over 250,000 private and corporate clients to ensure elderly customers can “live independently with the safety net of 24/7 support when it’s needed”.

The company’s mission centres on enabling users to preserve autonomy despite changing health conditions.

These individuals depend on seamless communication between their alarms and Careium’s Alarm Receiving Centre to summon help during emergencies, making this recall particularly concerning.

To ensure their safety, affected customers must stop using the defective units immediately and get in touch with Careium to receive a free replacement.

Customers can contact Careium Support at [email protected] or ring the Freephone number 0300 333 6511.

Serial numbers for affected units range from 1060000-1065999 for smoke detectors, 28010000-28011999 for heat detectors, and 20010000-20011349 for carbon monoxide models.
