TutorExtra has mapped more than 1,000 subjects to the UK’s National Curriculum frameworks, including GCSE, A-level and Scottish exam boards, helping parents locate tutors who teach directly in line with school syllabuses.

The platform categorises subjects across academic and foundation areas, aligning them with Key Stages 1–5 and Scottish National Qualifications to reflect the structure of the education system.

This allows families to search for educators with expertise in specific boards and course structures, such as AQA GCSE Biology or SQA Higher Physics. In England, the National Curriculum outlines 12 mandatory subjects in primary school and nine in secondary, with ongoing Department for Education updates promoting skills such as critical reasoning.

TutorExtra includes listings for academic subjects as well as music, computing and sports coaching, each linked with age-appropriate curriculum guidance. For example, entering “KS3 Science tutor” into the search returns tutors who hold PGCEs and deliver lab and practical work aligned to the Key Stage programme.

The curriculum mapping helps to address parents’ concerns about knowledge coverage, particularly as new 2025 updates place stronger emphasis on digital competency and environmental studies across core learning. TutorExtra’s no-fee model for tutors also allows greater participation from specialists, including those teaching BTEC and Cambridge IGCSE routes.

“By linking our subjects directly to the National Curriculum, we’re making it easier for parents to bridge any learning hurdles with targeted support,” said a TutorExtra spokesperson.

Users can view the mapped structure on the subjects section of the platform and refine searches by qualification level. Operating since 2018, TutorExtra continues to expand its nationwide tutor network, supporting both online and in-person lessons.
