Prince William stepped through the famous blue police box doors of Doctor Who’s legendary time machine during a surprise trip to Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff.

The Prince of Wales walked through the Tardis control room while touring the Welsh television facility that creates the BBC’s Doctor Who series.

The royal’s off-diary visit occurred last month and remained under wraps until today, with Kensington Palace sharing footage of William exploring the science fiction programme’s elaborate interior sets.

In the clip, the Prince could be seen bathed in the white light of the iconic time machine interior set as he marvelled at the various control panels and spoke to production members.

The Bad Wolf studio complex has created acclaimed programmes, including His Dark Materials. alongside its flagship Doctor Who production.

William additionally inspected the production area for The Other Bennet Sister, an upcoming period drama scheduled for 2026.

He also observed pupils from St Albans R.C. Primary School participating in a puppetry session at the facility.

William’s visit coincided with the studio’s decade milestone and preceded this evening’s Bafta Cymru ceremony in Newport.

While there, William also recorded a special address intended to be shown during the event late this evening.

Kensington Palace’s social media post documenting the day was captioned with the message: “From period pieces to all of time and space, both the BAFTA bursary and Bad Wolf Studios are actively inspiring future generations of creative talent.

“Well done to all those involved, and best of luck to tonight’s nominees,” it concluded.

Jane Tranter, Bad Wolf’s chief executive, expressed delight at hosting the royal visitor.

“It was a complete joy to show Prince William around Bad Wolf,” she stated, praising his genuine engagement with budding television professionals.

William became president of Bafta in 2010, taking over from actor-director Richard Attenborough.

His role encompasses promoting emerging talent and industry diversity through various programmes and initiatives.

The Prince’s visit to Bad Wolf allowed him to meet individuals who have benefited from the film and TV funding scheme that bears his name.

The Prince William BAFTA Bursary Fund, established in 2022, provides £2,000 financial assistance to aspiring creatives facing economic barriers.

This year’s programme supports 68 individuals across the film and television sectors.

His bursary scheme forms part of his broader commitment to removing financial obstacles for aspiring screen industry professionals.

“I am hugely proud of BAFTA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that young talent from all walks of life are given every possible opportunity to build and develop successful careers in the film, games and television industries,” William previously stated about the programme.
