Waitrose has issued a product recall for one of its fan-favourite pasta ready meals after it was discovered that its packaging failed to disclose a key allergen.

As a result, the much-loved British supermarket has pulled its own-brand Creamy Pesto Chicken Pasta from its shelves and has called upon purchasers to return the item for a full refund.

Customers can return the item to their local branch for a full refund

WAITROSE

The Food Standards Authority clarified that this warning specifically spans across Scotland and Wales only.

Meanwhile, Waitrose has already started to notify the appropriate allergy support groups about the issue and has placed warning notices at point-of-sale locations throughout its stores to alert shoppers.

Products bearing the expiry date of August 27, 2025 are affected by this recall. Consequently, shoppers who have purchased these items and have mustard allergies should not consume them, Waitrose instructed.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The retailer has instructed customers to bring the product back to any Waitrose branch where they will receive a complete refund. No receipt is required for the return.

For those requiring further assistance, shoppers can also reach Waitrose Customer Care by ringing 0800 188 884 and selecting option 4.

Mustard allergies

Top medics at the Cleveland Clinic have warned that those experiencing an allergic reaction to mustard might experience a range of uncomfortable symptoms.

During a reaction, the immune system falsely views proteins in mustard as a threat to the body and deploys antibodies to combat the “invaders”. As a result, the body’s immune system goes into overdrive.

No receipt is required to return the item

GETTY

Affected individuals may develop rashes, breathing problems and, in some extreme cases, life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Symptoms

  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dizziness
  • Hives or skin rash
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Swollen lips, tongue or face
  • Throat inflammation and difficulty swallowing
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath.

As a result, it is crucial to scour food label ingredients on product packaging and pay attention to product recalls where appropriate.
