When it comes to the ‘baggy’ look, fashionistas can’t seem to agree. While the trend has experienced a resurgence in recent years, not everyone considers it flattering.

In conversation with her TikTok followers, fashion creator Ellie (who goes by @petiteelliee on the platform) shared why the look is simply not for her.

“I’ve come to accept that an oversized fit just really doesn’t suit me personally,” she explained.

“Instead, I much prefer something with a more tailored and fitted silhouette, even if that means I have to get the piece altered.”

Although loosely-fitting clothes are all the rage, with magazines and social media platforms flooded with billowy, slouchy garments, it’s important to note that trends aren’t mandatory.

For those who are sceptical about the oversized look, it’s okay to shun it in favour of one that suits you.

Ellie used this approach when she found her baggy items weren’t doing her justice.

After taking a loose dress to a tailor, she remarked upon the transformational difference. “I cannot tell you how much more elevated it looks, now that it fits me perfectly,” she gushed.

However, Ellie emphasised that her banishment of baggy clothes was entirely personal; of course, slouchy outfits are a top choice for others.

If an oversized fit isn’t for you, consider having loose items tailored or cinching them in with a belt.

But for those who are keen to explore baggy fashion, stylists at House of Colour confirmed that oversized garments can be effortlessly dressed up or down with the right accessories.

What’s more, loose-fitting garments radiate “effortless, cool vibes”, making the wearer appear “put-together without trying too hard”.

Opting for bigger sizes to create a baggy look also accommodates a range of body shapes and sizes, “promoting a more all-inclusive approach to fashion”.

Finally, many fashionistas are drawn to looser garments due to their promise of comfort, ideal for a day relaxing at home or running errands.
