Almost 60,000 Tower Air Fryers have been recalled across the Republic of Ireland due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the appliances to overheat and catch fire.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) issued the urgent warning after similar recalls were announced in the UK, where incidents of the products catching fire have already been reported.
The recall affects five models sold at major retailers between 2020 and 2024.
Stockists include Tesco, Argos, Lidl, Dealz, DID, Amazon, and the Tower Housewares website, though the CCPC noted other retailers may also have sold them.

Shoppers have been urged to stop using the affected air fryers immediately and unplug them from the mains.
The CCPC stated: “The affected air fryers have a manufacturing defect that may cause the appliance to overheat, potentially leading to fires and risking injury or death.”
Whilst no incidents have been reported in Ireland to date, the commission noted there have been reports in the UK of these products catching fire.

The recall follows similar action in the UK, where the 2Ltr and 4Ltr models were previously withdrawn from sale at retailers including Tesco and Argos.
Lidl GB separately issued a recall for the Tower 8Ltr Dual Basket Air Fryer model T17129L, which is among the five models now being recalled in Ireland.
There are approximately 5,315 affected products in Ireland, all sold by Lidl in 2024.

How to check your model
To check if you own an affected model, unplug your air fryer and examine the appliance rating label on the bottom of the unit.
The model number will begin with the letter T, followed by the specific code identifying whether it’s one of the recalled products.
Anyone with an affected air fryer should contact Tower Housewares immediately via their website or by emailing [email protected].

The CCPC reminded consumers to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions, plus health and safety instructions, when using electrical appliances.
Director of communications at the CCPC, Grainne Griffin, commented: “This recall covers five Tower Air Fryer models with a dangerous manufacturing defect that could cause the models to overheat.
“Almost 60,000 affected units have been sold in Ireland, so consumers who have a Tower Air Fryer must check their model. If their model is affected, it is not safe to use.”
