Zopa Bank has doubled the cashback available on household bills for customers using its Biscuit current account, increasing the rate from two per cent to four per cent for a limited period.

The digital lender, which serves around two million customers across the UK, said account holders could earn up to £242 a year through cashback and interest.

Customers receive cashback on household bills paid by direct debit, including energy, broadband and council tax.

The enhanced four per cent rate applies to bill payments worth up to £2,000 a year, with cashback deposited monthly.

Biscuit account holders also earn two per cent interest on balances held in the account, with no upper limit on the amount eligible.

Zopa is additionally offering a regular saver paying 7.1 per cent interest — a rate it says is currently the highest on the market.

Savers can deposit up to £300 a month for six months, although the rate is variable and may change.

At the end of the term, savings move automatically into a Zopa Access Pot paying up to 3.25 per cent.

The Biscuit account is free to open and does not charge overseas card‑spending fees.

Clare Gambardella, Zopa’s chief customer officer, said: “At Zopa our goal is to provide the best everyday value current account in the UK.”

She added: “While we can’t stop bills increasing, we can help people get more money back as they pay them.

“That’s why we’re doubling Biscuit’s cashback to four per cent, so those regular payments work a little harder.”

The enhanced cashback rate runs only until May 31, giving customers less than a fortnight to apply and start earning the higher rate.

Zopa has positioned Biscuit as a competitive option in the current account market.

MoneySavingExpert has previously identified it as a strong performer for cashback and savings benefits.

Other banks currently offering incentives include:

  • Santander Edge — one per cent cashback on household bills, with a £3 monthly fee
  • Nationwide FlexDirect — £175 switching incentive plus one per cent cashback for one year
  • TSB Spend & Save — £200 switching incentives and access to a five per cent regular saver

Zopa’s temporary four per cent cashback offer is currently among the highest rates available for household bill payments.
