Your Party MP Zarah Sultana has demanded a “referendum on the monarchy” following calls at her party’s conference for its abolishment.

The Coventry South candidate has been openly critical of the Royal Family, consistently taking aim at Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Speaking to the BBC, Ms Sultana said: “It’s important that we articulate a different version of society and an economy that extends to not just corporations and businesses and our public services.

“It is also questions around the monarchy when you’ve got a royal family with a sovereign grant that will increase to £132million next year, and you’ve got Prince Andrew who has had £12million of taxpayers’ money to defend legal costs, a close friend of Jeffrey Epstein.”

Andrew has consistently denied all allegations against him surrounding Epstein, and the Metropolitan Police previously considered the sexual assault claims against him were not sufficient to warrant further investigation.

Aside from Andrew, who was stripped of his title of prince on November 3 following an announcement on October 30, the Your Party MP then expressed her republican views about the future of the monarchy.

Ms Sultana said: “We need to have a referendum on the monarchy and talk about democratising society as well.”

Just a week ago at the Your Party Conference in Liverpool, the former Labour MP in her maiden speech took aim at Andrew again, calling him a “parasite”.

She stated: “We shouldn’t just abolish Andrew’s titles. We should abolish the monarchy itself.”

A recent YouGov poll stated that some 62 per cent of the British public believe the UK should continue to have a monarchy as opposed to an elected head of state.

One in four back Ms Sultana’s position, and 14 per cent do not have an opinion on the matter.

Andrew plummeted to his all-time lowest ranking in the poll, with 91 per cent of Britons having a negative view of the disgraced royal.

The number of people who view the former prince in a very negative way has jumped by 10 per cent since August, up from 81 per cent.

The leap comes as Andrew is set to leave Royal Lodge and “live apart” from Sarah Ferguson, whose popularity was not recorded in the poll.

The Prince and Princess of Wales remain the most positively viewed royals, with 76 per cent having a good opinion of William and 73 per cent of Kate.

Meghan Markle is the closest in rankings to Andrew on the unpopularity scale, with 66 per cent having a negative view of Prince Harry’s wife.

The former duchess has been in the line of fire from critics surrounding her newly launched chocolate bars, which cost £9 each.

Some consumers have branded the bars “insane” and “weird” due to their unconventional flavour combinations.

The Duchess of Sussex revealed three limited edition treats through her As Ever lifestyle brand on Thursday, incorporating what she describes as “signature” ingredients designed to “spark a sweet nostalgia”.

The range features botanical-print packaging and includes ingredients such as bee pollen, hemp hearts, and edible flower sprinkles.

One commenter on X declared: “The flavours are just cringeworthy! Sticking that raspberry spread junk in one, flower sprinkles in another!”
