Queen Camilla was present at Ascot on Saturday for British Champions Day, where she demonstrated a keen eye for thoroughbred quality.
The horse she selected as best turned out, Talk Of New York, went on to triumph in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at the Berkshire racecourse.
Jockey William Buick guided the animal to victory, and the Queen was photographed beaming as he collected his trophy during the presentation ceremony.
It proved a memorable afternoon for Camilla, whose pre-race praise for Talk Of New York was vindicated spectacularly at one of the sport’s most prestigious fixtures.
The Queen was seen embracing and speaking with Zara Tindall, the Princess Royal’s daughter, during the afternoon’s festivities, who attended alongside her husband, Mike Tindall.
Her former husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, was also spotted in the royal box, with Mrs Tindall left standing between the divorced couple.
Among the jockeys Queen Camilla met was Saffie Osborne, who made history last month as the first woman to ride a British Classic winner.
Ms Osborne described the encounter as deeply meaningful.
“It’s amazing to have her here,” she said. “It’s quite clear how much she loves British racing and this is one of the best days’ racing in the world so to have her support and for her to be here is a real honour for all of us.”
Ms Osborne added a personal touch: “On a personal note, I think my granny will be over the moon that I’ve met her. She loves the Royal Family, as do we all.”
Camilla also spent time with 14-year-old Camilla Froggatt, who had claimed victory in the pony race earlier in the day.
The appearance underscored the continued royal commitment to British horse racing.
LATEST ROYAL DEVELOPMENTS:
Since inheriting the late Queen Elizabeth II’s stable, the King and Queen have embraced their roles as the sport’s most prominent supporters.
The couple have not merely maintained the late monarch’s racing legacy but have developed into enthusiastic owners in their own right, ensuring that the Crown’s long-standing association with the turf endures.
Saturday’s outing at Ascot served as further evidence of that passionate involvement.
