A young Colombian woman has died from complications after undergoing a liposuction at an unlicensed beauty clinic.
Xiomara Agudelo, 25, underwent the medical procedure on Tuesday November 12 at a beauty center in the Colombian town of San Rafael, Antioquia.

Xiomara’s concerned family members notified the clinic of her condition, but were assured that her symptoms were normal.
But as her state continued to worsen, Xiomara was ultimately rushed to Presbítero Alonso María Giraldo Hospital on Saturday, where a medical team discovered that her intestine had been perforated during the cosmetic procedure.
She was transferred to another hospital in nearby Rionegro where she was operated on, but despite doctors’ efforts, Xiomara died in the early hours of Sunday morning from peritonitis, which is an infection of the inner lining of the abdomen.
According to local news outlet El Colombiano, the Antioquia Health Department is investigating the beauty center where Xiomara had the cosmetic procedure done, as well as the member of staff who performed the operation on her.
Following Xiomara’s death, the Antioquia Health Department took to X to warn people of the dangers of unlicensed beauty clinics.

News of Xiomara’s death comes a month after another Colombian woman died while undergoing a cosmetic procedure.
Ada Evelin Ardila Perez, 38, was found dead by police in a makeshift beauty center after she died from complications while getting a liposuction.
Her family, who had accompanied her on the day of her procedure, told police they heard Ada screaming just minutes before medical staff fled the center.
When they went to check on her, they found her convulsing with a large opening in her lower abdomen. They called an ambulance, but by the time medics arrives, Ada had died.
Following her death, mayor of Medellin Federico Gutierrez said: ‘Again we are finding out about these cases of women who die in fake health centers, so to speak, due to cosmetic surgery’.
‘We are carrying out the respective controls because we cannot allow these so-called garage clinics to reappear.’

Luz Deicy Vélez Estrada traveled from her home in Montreal, Canada, to undergo the operation and a skin tightening surgery in the Colombian capital Bogotá on March 8, but became violently ill later that night and died at a local hospital.
‘After 15 years living in Canada, Luz traveled to Colombia to have an operation with a person she found on the internet called ‘The Doll Maker,” her husband Félix Alejandro Aguirre said, referring to renowned surgeon Yina Calderón.
Luz had paid 28 million Colombian pesos, or about $6,770, for the combination surgeries.
Felix said her his wife fell seriously ill after the operation and began expelling large quantities of blood.
