Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind the Yellowstone franchise, has definitively ruled out the long-rumoured 6666 spin-off series.

Appearing on the Rodeo Time podcast, the writer and producer declared the project, which had been the subject of widespread speculation for years, will simply never materialise.

“There’s never going to be” a 6666 series, Ms Sheridan stated.

He added: “People thought that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that.”

Yellowstone fans still have two active spin-offs to look forward to despite the 6666 series being scrapped

The confirmation comes as the wider Yellowstone universe continues to expand, with five series produced to date and two spin-offs currently in progress.

Ms Sheridan’s reasoning centres on his personal connection to the 6666 ranch, which he acquired alongside a group of investors in 2020.

He explained turning the property into a fictional setting would undermine the real lives of those who depend on it.

“So now I’m trivialising and fictionalising something where real people work, and they raise their families there, and I could never do that to them,” he said.

“I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves and everybody that works on that ranch.”

He described himself as deeply protective of the property, noting safeguarding it represents a significant personal obligation.

“It’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch, so I have to be very, very careful with it,” he added.

The proposed series was first unveiled by Paramount at its 2022 Upfront presentation, emerging after Jefferson White’s character Jimmy Hurdstrom was dispatched to the ranch during the fourth season of Yellowstone.

Reports at the time indicated the show would have been set in an era when Comanches dominated West Texas, depicting a storied property renowned for producing elite horses, livestock and cowboys.

Although the project never advanced, Ms Sheridan revealed he has assembled something of a consolation piece.

He said he has “actually got on my computer all the scenes of Jimmy at the 6666” from season four, edited into a standalone sequence.

“You watch him go there as this misfit and leave as a man and a respected cowboy,” he explained.

Despite the 6666 project being shelved permanently, devotees of the Yellowstone universe still have plenty to look forward to.

Two spin-off series remain active, both of which have been greenlit for second runs.
