Nelly Korda is six shots behind leader Ina Yoon at the midway point of the Women’s PGA Championship as she chases her third straight major.

World number one Korda has won the Chevron Championship and the US Open this year already.

The 27-year-old is in contention again after shooting a four-under 68 at Hazeltine, making birdies on four of the front nine before finishing with six pars in a row.

Korda says South Korea’s Yoon – who has yet to win a major but has a five-shot lead at halfway – will start to feel the pressure.

“It is hard to have a big lead going into the weekend,” said the American.

“I was there at the Chevron and you do feel a little bit more pressure, like everyone is hunting you down.

“I’m just going to focus on, as boring as it is, one shot at a time and see where that takes me.”

England’s Charley Hull – second to Korda at the US Open earlier this month – missed the cut at two-over par after back-to-back rounds of 73.

Yoon, who was nine under par after a spectacular opening round, backed that up with a 69 to get to 12 under.

“The remaining two days will obviously be nerve-racking, but being nervous is human nature, and I think I want to embrace that and focus on what I can in my shots,” she said.

The purse of $13m (£9.8m) this week is the largest in women’s golf history, with $1.95m (£1.48m) awarded to the winner.
