The Women’s Big Bash match between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes was abandoned at the halfway stage after a ball was inadvertently rolled into the pitch.

As the players warmed up between innings, a ball became stuck under the roller which traveling up the playing surface.

It resulted in a “hole” being created on the pitch which changed the playing conditions “significantly”.

“After consultation, it was considered unreasonable to expect Hobart to bat in conditions that were materially different to those the Strikers had,” a statement said.

Hurricanes captain Elyse Villani said the hole was “quite large and deep”.

Both sides took one point as a result of the abandonment.

Hurricanes had already guaranteed top spot and an automatic place in the final, while Strikers, who posted 167-4 before the incident are sixth, two spots below the qualification places, with one match to play.

They are one point behind fifth-placed Perth Scorchers and fourth-placed Melbourne Renegades with the top four going through.
