Journalist Miranda Levy says she was “overtaken by cold fury” after witnessing a woman cutting down yellow ribbons commemorating victims of the October 7 Hamas attacks.

Ms Levy told GB News she was walking through north London on a sunny day when she saw the woman “methodically cutting down the ribbons and putting them in her bag”.

The yellow ribbons serve as symbols of hope and are connected to the Bring Them Home campaign, which advocates for the release of hostages detained by Hamas.

Speaking to GB News, Ms Levy said: “Just days after the Yom Kippur murders in Manchester. I couldn’t help but take my phone out. I was overtaken by this kind of cold fury.

“I just had to ask: what are you doing? And what’s happened since? Of course, there’s been no apology.

“No acceptance that what she did was grossly offensive not only to me, or to the people in that community in north London, but to the entire Jewish community around the world.

“But to be serious for a second, yes, it’s outrageous. Take all politics out of it. Forget anything to do with Israel.

“This was simply an inhumane, immoral thing to do.

“I don’t actually know what the law says about putting up or taking down ribbons, but it was a shockingly callous thing to be doing at any time, let alone that week.”

Metropolitan Police officers are examining video evidence to establish if criminal offences occurred during the ribbon removal incident.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The force received reports about the footage at approximately 4.25pm on October 6.

“Officers have attended the location and are currently reviewing the footage to determine whether any offences, including hate crime or criminal damage, have been committed,” the spokesman said.

Witnesses at the scene expressed their shock at her actions.

One bystander branded her a “disgusting human being” for dismantling the tributes.

Ms Levy added: “What’s going on in these people’s heads? They just can’t see it for what it is.

“Well, it’s interesting, I tried very hard to engage this woman in conversation, as did a couple of others.

“There’s a lot more than what you see in the video; we were there for quite a long time, really trying to stay calm and ask ‘why are you doing this? What’s your reason?’

“She started talking about genocide, the usual line they roll out and I just said, ‘forget any of that. Why are you doing this?’

“But it was like talking to nobody. It was as if she was in a cult, completely brainwashed. There was no thought, no engagement, just the repetition of slogans.

“She said she was Jewish, and it’s very hard to understand how anyone could get to that point. She seemed intelligent and well-spoken, which made it all the more eerie.”
