A woman has praised two off-duty medics who she said saved her teenage sister’s life after she was struck by a car.

Danielle Fairhurst said her 16-year-old sister was helped by a nurse and another medical professional after the crash on Darlington Street in Wigan at about 18:05 GMT on 30 December.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the girl was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a Seat Arona.

Ms Fairhurst told the : “She’s very lucky and is a walking miracle, she’s on the road to recovery.”

She had earlier posted a message on Facebook, asking for the two medics to get in touch.

“Please can you reach out – you saved my sister’s life,” she wrote.

“Without you two there, things would have been a lot worse and the outcome would have been so, so different.”

GMP said the girl was crossing the road when she was struck.

A force spokesperson said the driver remained at the scene and that no arrests had been made.

The GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit is asking anyone who saw the girl prior to the collision, who may have witnessed the collision, or may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
