Matt Peet insists his Wigan side have flushed an unacceptable performance against Huddersfield out of their system ahead of the Good Friday derby against St Helens.

The Super League leaders’ shock home defeat by the Giants led to a painful in-house review which identified the team’s failings as they became the first side to lose to Huddersfield in the league this season.

The Warriors head coach believes they will be transformed for the trip to BrewDog Stadium.

“It’s one of the exciting fixtures of the year, one of those that you remember when you look back on past seasons. You know it’s going to be a game full of moments and intensity. It’s one we’re looking forward to,” Peet told Radio Merseyside.

“You just know it’s a big game, you know you’re up against a tough opposition and it’s very important to the spectator – so it probably means that little bit more to both sets of players.

“It was important that we drew a line, tackled it (the Huddersfield defeat) head on and moved on. We agreed it’s not acceptable.”

With Bevan French and Jai Field injured, Wigan will be relying on the likes of 20-year-olds Noah Hodkinson and Jack Farrimond but Peet is backing them to cope with the derby atmosphere.

“Those lads have been in the team for a few weeks now. They know the responsibility, they’re prepared, they are full-time professionals,” he added.
