Wigan have signed goalkeeper Joe Whitworth from Premier League side Crystal Palace on a three-year deal and Aston Villa midfielder Brad Burrowes on a season-long loan.

Whitworth, 22, links up again with Latics boss Gary Caldwell, who managed him in two loan spells at Exeter City.

At 19 years and 15 days old, Whitworth became the youngest goalkeeper to make a Premier League appearance for Crystal Palace, against Brighton in March 2023.

“I’ve worked with the head coach and the staff before, and we played some of our best football under him,” Whitworth told the Wigan website, external. “To come here and play under him is really good for me again.”

Burrowes, 18, is a product of Villa’s academy, captaining their Under-21s side last season and making his senior debut as a substitute against Crystal Palace in August 2025.

The England youth international was also on the bench in the Uefa Super Cup last month.

Burrowes told Wigan’s website, external: “On the pitch, I will bring energy, a lot of pace and hopefully some goals, too.

“Off the pitch, I like to interact with the fans and people around the place, so that is what I will try and pride myself on during my time here.”
