Wigan Athletic midfielder Matt Smith has had his red card in the FA Cup tie against Hemel Hempstead overturned.

Smith, 25, was sent off in the 61st minute of the first round game for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

The incident resulted in a penalty from which the non-league side equalised and the match finished 1-1 after extra time before the Latics won on penalties.

Wigan successfully appealed against the red card, citing wrongful dismissal and Smith will now be available for the League One match at Exeter City on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
