Scottish Water said the repair was complex and taking longer than anticipated

Engineers have repaired a burst water main in Fife which had cut off supplies to around 1,000 homes.

Scottish Water said the incident happened in Kennoway on Friday afternoon and a dedicated team worked on it through the night until 16:00.

It said some customers may notice low pressure or discoloured water as a result but urged those affected to run the cold kitchen tap only, at a reduced pressure, until it clears.

The publicly-owned utility thanked those affected for their patience and added any issues with cloudy water will clear within 24 to 48 hours.

Scottish Water earlier said the repair was complex and would take longer than anticipated.

It brought in specialist equipment, including large capacity pumps, to clear a large amount of surface water to enable the work to be carried out.

The company responded to bottled water requests and focused on those customers on its Priority Services Register.
