Virginia Giuffre’s memoir reaching one million sales worldwide is a “bittersweet moment”, according to her family, months after they lauded the late activist for “taking down a prince”.

Mrs Giuffre’s posthumously-released book, Nobody’s Girl, set out her account of being trafficked by the convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

Within the memoir, further allegations were made against several figures, including Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who suffered huge sanctions following the book’s publication, including the loss of his royal titles.

The book repeated earlier claims that she was compelled to have sex with the former prince on three occasions, one of which allegedly took place when she was 17. Andrew has always strongly rejected the accusations.

In a statement, Mrs Giuffre’s family, including Sky and Amanda Roberts and Danny and Lanette Wilson, reacted to the book sales, saying: “This is a bittersweet moment for us.

“We are enormously proud of our sister and the impact she continues to have on the world.

“We’re also filled with so much sorrow that she couldn’t be here to witness the impact of her words. In her absence, our family remains committed to ensuring her voice is everlasting.”

Susanna Wadeson, publishing director at Doubleday UK, said: “Nobody’s Girl is a narrative about surviving abuse, but it is also a rallying cry for reclaiming power.

“Virginia Roberts Giuffre has changed the world with her courage and grace in the face of depravity.

“The impact of her story has brought hope and inspiration to survivors everywhere. Her legacy will be felt for generations.”

At the time when Andrew was stripped of his royal titles, Mrs Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, said in a statement: “He’s just Andrew. He’s no longer a prince, and she (Mrs Giuffre) would be, she is celebrating from the heavens right now, saying I did it.

“This normal girl from a normal family has taken down a prince. We are so proud of her.

“Her survivors are proud of her, her sisters. This is a moment that is unprecedented in history.”

Mrs Giuffre, who died by suicide in April, claimed in her memoir that she chose clothes inspired by her pop idols, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, when she first met Andrew at the age of 17.

She also referred to the photograph taken in March 2001 at Ghislaine Maxwell’s London apartment, which showed the then-Duke of York with his arm around her waist.

In the image, she described herself as wearing a “pink V-necked, sleeveless mini T-shirt and a sparkly, multi-coloured pair of jeans embroidered with a pattern of interlocking horses”.

Andrew later paid an undisclosed sum to settle a civil sexual assault claim brought by Mrs Giuffre in 2022, despite maintaining that he had never met her, with the settlement containing no admission of guilt.

Since the publication of Nobody’s Girl, Andrew has lost his Dukedom of York and his princely title.

In addition, King Charles instructed that formal notice be served to surrender Andrew’s lease at Royal Lodge, his Windsor home since 2003.

The 65-year-old is due to relocate to a house on the King’s private Sandringham estate.

Reports suggest the Norfolk property is currently undergoing refurbishment, with Andrew expected to relocate early next year.
