Drivers are being warned that 22 car parks will be closing this week following the collapse of one of the UK’s largest parking operators.

NCP has confirmed that it will be closing 22 car parks around the UK on Friday, March 27, 2026, as they are deemed “commercially unviable”.

The parking operator and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the administrator in charge of NCP, chose the 22 sites after an initial assessment.

The other 318 car parks operated by PwC will remain open, and no further sites are identified for closure at this time.

PwC stated that NCP had suffered in the years following the pandemic, as parking demands have changed due to the increase in hybrid working patterns.

It added: “Continued shifts in commuting and customer driving patterns have impacted site occupancy, while the high concentration of long-term, inflexible leases has meant NCP has been unable to reduce costs in line with revenue or to exit loss-making sites, resulting in ongoing trading losses.

“NCP now has insufficient cash available to meet its financial obligations, and the Directors have therefore taken the decision to appoint administrators.”

It has outlined the 22 sites set for closure, with drivers being blocked from accessing the sites from Friday, March 27.

Leicester City Council has confirmed that plenty of parking options are still available in the city

LEICESTERS CITY COUNCIL

Leicester City Council has reassured drivers that the impact of the NCP car park closures will not be as severe as initally severe.

While NCP-operated car parks at Abbey Street, East Street, Lee Circle and the Rutland Centre will be closing, there are more than 9,000 off-street parking spaces in the city centre.

Martin Fletcher, city highways director at LCC, said: “We recognise this will reduce parking capacity in and around the city centre and appreciate the concern this may cause for residents, visitors, and businesses.

“We are working closely with partners to manage the impact of these closures, and looking at any future actions needed.”
