Fuel prices are likely only days away from breaking all-time records, with some forecourts hiking prices by as much as 3p a day.
Drivers are currently paying an average of 171.76p per litre for unleaded, while diesel has now risen to 194.72p, according to RAC Fuel Watch.
Fuel prices have continued to rise in recent days and weeks as the price of oil stagnates above $100 (£74.84) a barrel as a result of the US-Iran war.
The RAC predicts that petrol and diesel prices in the UK will continue to increase in the coming days, in addition to the cost of premium fuels.
This comes as hostilities in the Middle East continue between the United States and Iran, as well as attacks between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Some forecourts in the UK are rapidly increasing the price of fuel, including some service stations hiking the price of diesel by 3p per litre in the last 24 hours.
Data from the Government’s Fuel Finder tool shows that service stations on the M6, M62, M4 and M48 have increased prices in the last day.
RAC research suggests that the average price of diesel is rising by 1.18p per day, while petrol is jumping by around 0.86p a day.
